Oahu Pictures - Malaekahana Beach - Picture of Oahu
Oahu Pictures - Malaekahana Beach - Picture of Oahu - About two miles north of the Polynesian Cultural Center, north of the Malaekahana State Recreation Area, is Malaekahana Beach. It is a lovely wooded beach park with an abundance of beach related activities. It awards a large white sandy beach perfect for beach-coming or lying in the cool trade winds of the windward side.
Body-boarding is also a favored activity at Malaekahana Beach. The waters to the south of the body boarding area will be calmer and more suited for swimming. Be cautious in the winter months when the waves are strong as there is no lifeguard on duty. There are small cabins for camping, available for a fee.
Reservations need to be made well in advance as camping at Malaekahana Beach is quite popular. Mokuauia (Goat Island) Island and Pulemoku Rock, two sea bird sanctuaries, are visible just offshore. “Goat Island” is a very short distance off the point at the Malaekahana State Recreation Area and can be reached by foot if you’re up for a brave adventure. This little island retreat will definitely be one of the most memorable experiences about your trip to Hawaii. Make sure that weather and ocean conditions are calm, and that it is low tide before you dare. Bring reef shoes.
