Maui Pictures - Sugar Beach
Maui Pictures - Sugar Beach - Located directly in North Kihei at the end of Mokulele Hwy is Sugar Beach, in reference to the old sugar cane industry that once thrived in Maui. Sugar Beach spans the distance from Ohukai Beach to Maalaea, a small condominium town at the north end of Maalaea Bay.
If you’re into long walks along Sugar Beach you can try a walk that goes all the way to Maalaea, along the Kealia National Wildlife Refuge. It is a great opportunity to do some whale watching and witness those gorgeous Maui sunsets over the West Maui Mountains. Or you can walk south to the pavilion where during windy conditions you can see windsurfers cutting it up on the water. Sugar Beach is more of what you’d expect from a tropical island destination. There is golden sand stretching for hundreds of feet, although the water in North Kihei tends to be more on the murky side.
