Big Island Pictures - Whale Watching
Big Island Pictures - Whale Watching - can be enjoyed from Whale Boats, from Beaches, from Kayaks, from Scenic Outlooks. One of the best places in the world to observe whales is in the relatively calm, shallow seas surrounding the Hawaiian Islands – the only known breeding and calving ground for humpback whales in the United States. It’s impossible to be in Hawaii in winter and not see whales offshore. The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most remote island archipelagoes in the world. Each winter, these Islands become home to at least 6,000-8,000 humpback whales. Why humpback whales travel to sub-tropical areas like Hawaii each year is still unknown, but the warm, clear, shallow, protected waters make Hawaii one of the best natural laboratories in the world to study Humpbacks.
