The Oldest Island
To prepare for your adventure on Kauai, begin by looking at a map of the island. Northernmost and oldest geologically of all the Hawaiian Islands, Kauai is the fourth largest in the chain.

Kauai's Size
Nearly circular in shape, Kauai's the island is 533 square miles — 25 miles long by 33 miles wide at its furthest points.

Kaua's "Shores"
The island is referred to by the locals in terms of “shores.” The North Shore of the island encompasses Ha’ena to Kapa’a and includes Princeville.

Kauai East Shore
The East Shore extends from Kapa’a to just North of Lihue and is frequently referred to as the “Coconut Coast.”

Kauai South Shore
The South Shore extends from Lihue to Kekaha and includeds Poipu.

Na Pali Coast
The Na Pali Coast is located on the West Shore and is an area all unto itself.

Kauai North Shore
The North Shore of the island is considered the lush, tropical side of the island. Here you will find every shade of green possible, incredible beaches and a plethora of waterfalls. The islands best golf courses are located on this shore and many of the condominiums are built right on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Hanalei bay is also located here and is famous with surfers for it’s challenging beach breaks during winter months.
