We would have liked to stay out and watch the whales longer instead of the activities inside (hula dancing, lei making etc...)

This was one of the best activities we did during our stay in Honolulu. The ship also does a dinner cruise, which is pretty bad, so we were questioning whether the whale watch cruise would be equally lame. We were very pleasantly surprised.
You might want to tell your guests to skip the meal.

We didn't receive the tickets on time at home so we called & used the voucher in Hawaii. We also called & added the meals for the cruise. So it turned out okay.
