Maui Horseback Riding at Piiholo Ranch

Horseback riding with the Baldwin Family Tradition...5 generations of ranching on Maui. On the edge of the Upcountry rainforest, bordering Makawao Town, lies a secluded ranch. It's a riding adventure with plenty of open space and the freedom you won't find anywhere else. Four rides daily, Monday through Saturday. Rides are limited to 6 people to ensure that guests have a quality adventure and can easily talk one-on-one with the guides.

Six Generations of Baldwin Legacy

The Baldwin Family can truly be called pioneers of Maui — from the missionary era in the 1830s to the Monarchy period of the late 19th century and from World Wars I and II through the plantation era to the present. Six generations later, the Baldwins' legacy trail makes for a fascinating ride ...

Piiholo Ranch borders the "Paniolo Town" of Makawao and lies at the edge of an Upcountry rainforest. Owned and operated by Peter Baldwin and his family, Piiholo is a working cattle ranch filled with the flora and fauna of Hawaii's native eco-systems.

Piiholo Paniolo-Style Horseback Adventures

We want people to spread out on the ride, there's lots of room. We offer walking rides through our scenic pasture lands where you'll be able to view Maui from the crater to the ocean. You'll ride through our cattle herd, and if your timing is right, you'll be involved in short cattle drive. From most of the ranch land you'll not see a rooftop in any direction!

1-Hour or 2-Hour Country Horseback Rides
Both rides take you through the scenic, wide-open pastures around the ranch, where you can see cattle, maybe some Axis deer and wild pigs, rare native plants, forest trees and colorful birds, towering Eucalyptus forests and green Kikuyu and Pangola pastures.

Views overlook the entire valley, West Maui mountains, north and south shores and rolling pineapple and sugarcane fields. Includes refreshments: Fruit juices, bottled water and snacks are included. Coffee included on Morning Rides.

Safety is very important to us. We'll match our horses to your height and weight. We give a briefing about our horses along with basic horseback riding instruction at the beginning of each ride.
