Hike over a thousand feet above the valley floor on an historic trail that reveals inspiring views of two rivers, thriving taro farms, ocean vistas, native forest and numerous waterfalls, including a secret view of world renowned Hiilawe Falls. Perhaps no other trail in Hawaii offers so much beauty and history than on this exclusive 3 mile rim hike.
Your tour begins with a scenic drive through the lush, green countryside. Pass through the quaint plantation towns of Hawi and Kapaau, site of the life-size statue of King Kamehameha the First. At the end of the road, stop at the historic Kohala Mule Station for one of Hawaii's most spectacular coastline views. Interpretive Drive to private property site and trailhead.
The Waipio Valley Rim Hike
Once out of the van, you'll feel as if you've stepped back into the early 1900s, when plantation owners there began construction of the Kohala Ditch Trail to bring much needed water to the sugar cane fields. Along the 2 mile loop trail We cross two streams, discover seven waterfalls and
traverse three historic bridges while exploring ancient farming
terraces and the famous Kohala Ditch. Easy walks, gorgeous
countryside views and a chance to cool off with a swim in a mountain stream
make this the ideal family adventure.

Dress Code: Guests should wear closed-toe walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and a light sweatshirt or jacket.
Restrictions: Must be able to walk over uneven, rocky and muddy terrain in some locations on trail. Short up and down climbs during the hike.
